Our CPAP doctors at Northshore Sleep Medicine have all the supplies and support for your sleep apnea treatment. You get full-service medical attention — from the diagnosis of your sleep disorder to the CPAP options and CPAP supplies that you need to get better sleep.
If a CPAP — or continuous positive airway pressure — machine is prescribed, your CPAP specialist will help you select the type of machine that may be best for you. These home-use machines have a variety of options available so you can get the best fit and the most health benefits possible.
Your CPAP kit has three main parts:
- A mask or other device that fits over your nose or your nose and mouth. Straps keep the mask in place while you are wearing it.
- A tube that connects the mask to the machine’s motor.
- A motor that blows air into the tube.
Your doctor will work with you to make sure the prescribed settings on your CPAP machine are correct. An overnight sleep study may be needed to find the correct settings for you. Your doctor will want to make sure the air pressure from the machine is just enough to keep your airway open while you sleep. Plus, our sleep technicians are always available to answer your questions and take care of your supply needs. There are many kinds of CPAP machines and masks. Let your doctor know if you’re not happy with the type you’re using. He may suggest switching to a different type that might work better for you.
If you are using a CPAP machine, you should be seen by your CPAP doctor annually as insurance companies require a new CPAP prescription annually. Some insurance companies now also require a compliance check annually. Patients must use their machines for at least four hours per night for at least 21 days in a 30-day period to be in compliance for insurance to cover the supplies.
