Provent™ Professional Sleep Apnea Therapy

Have you given CPAP a try, but couldn’t seem to make it work for you?
While CPAP remains the gold standard for sleep apnea treatment, it doesn’t work for everyone. Some users can find the mask and other equipment cumbersome and difficult to use. Others have difficulty falling asleep while wearing the mask or getting used to the air pressure, and may use it less often than they should or stop the treatment altogether. Working with their sleep doctor, some patients can quickly adjust to the device. But if you didn’t have success with CPAP machines, a new sleep apnea therapy call Provent may be an option for you.

Provent Sleep Apnea TreatmentNorthshore Sleep Medicine is one of the only sleep clinics in Chicago providing this new safe, alternative treatment. Until now, there have only been oral appliances (like CPAP) that isn’t necessarily a solution for every person or painful surgeries that are typically ineffective.

Provent™ Sleep Apnea Therapy

Provent™ is a simple, noninvasive treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. The Provent nasal device uses a novel valve design with attaches over the nostrils and is secured in place with a hypoallergenic adhesive. Because it is a single-use, disposable device, it’s also very convenient.

The goal of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) therapy is to provide treatment that is effective yet comfortable and convenient so that patients will use it every night. Clinically proven to be effective, Provent is discreet, easy-to-use and powered by your own breathing (no electricity required).

How Provent Works

Provent uses a novel valve design which attaches over the nostrils. During inhalation the valve is open, allowing the patient to breathe in freely. Then, during exhalation, the valve closes and air passing through the nose is directed through two small air channels. This creates pressure in the airway which helps to keep it open. The Provent device is a prescription-only device and should be used only after consultation with a physician.

If you’ve tried CPAP and were not a good candidate, call 847-674-3600 for an appointment with one of our sleep experts to find out if Provent is right for you.
